Rice scores 25, Monmouth knocks off Hampton 85-77

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) — Xander Rice scored 25 points as Monmouth beat Hampton 85-77 on Saturday.

Rice was 9 of 17 shooting, including 3 for 8 from 3-point range, and went 4 for 4 from the line for the Hawks (10-9, 3-3 Coastal Athletic Association). Nikita Konstantynovskyi scored 15 points and added eight rebounds. Abdi Bashir Jr. was 5 of 8 shooting (4 for 6 from 3-point range) to finish with 14 points.

Jordan Nesbitt led the Pirates (4-15, 0-7) in scoring, finishing with 18 points and six assists. Kyrese Mullen added 17 points and 14 rebounds for Hampton. In addition, Jerry Deng had 16 points. The loss was the Pirates' 10th in a row.

Monmouth took a 31-24 lead in the first half with an 11-0 run. Led by 12 first-half points from Rice, Monmouth carried a 37-35 lead into the break. Monmouth took the lead for good with 1:58 left in the second half on a 3-pointer from Rice to make it a 78-76 game.
