San Diego State's Brian Dutcher signs contract extension through 2027-28 season
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Brian Dutcher, who led San Diego State to the national championship game last season, has signed a contract extension that will keep him on the Aztecs' bench through the 2027-28 season.
Dutcher is in his seventh season as head coach, with a 173-55 record, and 25th season overall at SDSU. He was Steve Fisher's assistant for 18 seasons.
In a statement Wednesday, Dutcher thanked SDSU officials and added, “Our success began 25 years ago when my friend Steve Fisher came to The Mesa and along with my assistant coaches, we have built a program that competes on a national level every night. I got into coaching to affect the lives of young people and to be able to do it at a school and in a city I love, is all anyone can ask for.”
The Aztecs reached their first Final Four last year, beat FAU on Lamont Butler's buzzer-beater and then lost to UConn in the championship game.
The No. 21 Aztecs dropped to 22-8 and 11-6 in the Mountain West after a 62-58 loss at UNLV on Tuesday night.
