Slocum scores 22 in debut as No. 14 Arkansas women drop ORU

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Graduate transfer Destiny Slocum scored 22 points in her Arkansas debut and the No. 14 Razorbacks rolled to a 96-49 win over Oral Roberts to open the season on Wednesday.

Slocum, who led Oregon State in scoring and assists last season, hit 9 of 14 shots, including a pair of 3-pointers, and had three assists.

Chelsea Dungee added 17 points and Makayla Daniels and reserve Erynn Barnum added 14 points apiece for Arkansas, which took control early. The Razorbacks scored the final 11 points of the first quarter to lead 17-6 and turned that into a 13-0 run. Another 13-0 run made it 34-9.

Slocum had 17 points in the first half and Arkansas had 17 points off of 17 Golden Eagles turnovers to lead 45-19.

Taylah Thomas grabbed 13 rebounds as the Razorbacks held a 53-39 advantage on the boards, including 23-7 on the offensive glass, good for 19 second-chance points. They also ended up with 30 points off 29 turnovers.

Faith Paramore led Oral Roberts with 14 points off the bench. The Golden Eagles shot 33%, going 3 of 19 from 3-point range.

Mike Neighbors is entering his fourth season with the Razorbacks, going from a preseason prediction of 14th, last, in the Southeastern Conference, to 14th in the nation. He has four fifth-year seniors, three of them starters.

Slocum averaged 14.9 points and 4.8 assists for the Beavers last season and transferred with 1,394 points.
