Solomon scores 13 points, UTEP holds off Norfolk State for 67-65
EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Calvin Solomon's 13 points helped UTEP defeat Norfolk State 67-65 on Wednesday night in the Sun Bowl Invitational.
Otis Frazier III made a layup to give UTEP a 62-61 lead with 2:33 to play, and the Miners led the rest of the way.
Allen Betrand made a pair of free throws to pull Norfolk State to 65-64. Tae Hardy answered for UTEP with two from the line to make it 67-64 with eight seconds left. The Spartans' Jamarii Thomas made one of two free throws to end it.
Solomon also contributed eight rebounds for the Miners (7-5). Hardy scored 12 points, shooting 4 for 13 (1 for 5 from 3-point range) and 3 of 3 from the free-throw line. Frazier and Zid Powell had 10 points apiece.
Betrand led the way for the Spartans (8-6) with 18 points and six rebounds. Thomas added 13 points and four steals for Norfolk State. In addition, Jack Doumbia had eight points.
