Wheeler leads balanced Georgia past Ole Miss 71-61
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Sahvir Wheeler had 13 points and five assists to lead Georgia to a 71-61 victory over Mississippi on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs (10-6, 3-6 Southeastern Conference) used an 11-2 run to take a 67-55 lead with 6:07 remaining. Ole Miss (8-8, 3-6) pulled within seven points with about five minutes left but didn't get closer.
Tye Fagan had 13 points for Georgia. Toumani Camara added 10 points and eight rebounds, and P.J. Horne and Justin Kier chipped in eight points apiece and combined for all six of the Bulldogs' steals. Each starter had at least one 3-pointer and an assist.
Andrew Garcia scored 11 points off the bench for the Bulldogs, who finished shooting 55% (26 of 47) and made nine 3-pointers.
Jarkel Joiner had 14 points and six steals to lead Ole Miss. Devontae Shuler added 11 points and Robert Allen had 10.
The Rebels led just twice, their last at 32-31 with 1:56 to play in the first half. Georgia shot 60% (15 of 25) from the floor and made six 3-pointers, but had 11 turnovers in the first half in building a 37-34 halftime advantage. Camara scored nine points and Wheeler added eight.
It was Ole Miss coach Kermit Davis' first loss (2-1) with the Rebels at Stegeman Coliseum.
Ole Miss, which has lost two straight, hosts Tennessee on Tuesday. Georgia looks for consecutive wins following a two-game losing skid when it plays at Auburn on Tuesday.
