Xavier beats St. John's 88-77 behind 23 points apiece from Olivari and Claude

CINCINNATI (AP) — Quincy Olivari and Desmond Claude each scored 23 points to help Xavier defeat St. John's 88-77 on Wednesday night.

Olivari also added seven rebounds and four steals for the Musketeers (11-10, 5-5 Big East Conference). Claude went 6 of 13 from the field and 11 of 12 from the free throw line. Dayvion McKnight was 6 of 9 shooting and 6 of 7 from the free throw line to finish with 19 points, while adding five rebounds and six assists.

The Red Storm (13-8, 5-5) were led in scoring by Daniss Jenkins, who finished with 25 points. Joel Soriano added 21 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks for St. John's. In addition, Jordan Dingle finished with 12 points.

Xavier entered halftime up 38-34. Olivari paced the team in scoring in the first half with eight points. Claude's free throw with 2:43 left in the second half gave Xavier the lead for good at 76-75.
