Anderson runs for 183 yards, 4 TDs to lead Memphis over North Texas 52-44

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Mario Anderson Jr. ran for 183 yards and matched a program record with four touchdowns to lead Memphis to a 52-44 victory over North Texas on Saturday night.

Anderson scored from 4- and 5-yards out on back-to-back possessions to give Memphis a 49-38 lead with 5:17 remaining. North Texas answered with Chandler Morris' 9-yard touchdown pass to Blair Conwright to get the Falcons within 49-44 with 2:48 left.

The Tigers' Tristian Vandenberg made his only field-goal attempt, a 43-yarder, to end the scoring with 1:42 to play. Morris then led the Falcons to the Memphis 18, but he threw an interception on third-and-10 to end it.

There were six touchdowns on the game's first seven possessions and six touchdowns in the second half. North Texas finished with 653 yards of offense while Memphis had 526.

Seth Henigan was 24-of-38 passing for 319 yards with a touchdown and had a 4-yard scoring run for Memphis (6-1, 2-1 American Athletic Conference), which became bowl eligible.

Morris completed 36 of 61 passes for 445 yards with three touchdowns and an interception, and he added 71 yards rushing that included a 49-yard touchdown for North Texas (5-2, 2-1). DT Sheffield made eight catches for 122 yards with two touchdowns and a 75-yard TD run for the Falcons.

Anderson ran for a 5-yard touchdown in the first quarter, and following a North Texas turnover from Sheffield’s fumble, he scored on a 42-yard run to give the Tigers a 28-21 lead with 7:41 remaining in the first half.

Memphis has won four straight against North Texas.
