Backup Coles gives TCU a boost in win over Cincinnati as squads go in opposite direction

FORTH WORTH, Texas (AP) — Reserve Jakobe Coles scored 11 of his 18 points before halftime, Emanuel Miller also scored 18 points and TCU took control late in the first half in beating Cincinnati 75-57 on Saturday.

The Horned Frogs now have won six of nine. The Bearcats have lost seven of 10.

Day Day Thomas led Cincinnati with 13 points.

TCU (19-8, 8-6 Big 12) never let Cincinnati within four points after halftime.

Coles’ jumper with 44 seconds left before halftime gave TCU a 38-28 lead. Cincinnati entered having won three games in the Big 12 in which they encountered a double-digit deficit at some juncture in the first half. The Bearcats beat BYU, TCU and UCF to accomplish the feat with wins against BYU and UCF occurring on the road.

Peavy threw down a dunk to start the game and Anderson made consecutive 3-pointers to give TCU an 8-0 lead. Cincinnati (16-11, 5-9) secured its first lead when Simas Lukosius made a 3 with with 7:49 before halftime to make it 21-20.

TCU responded and outscored Cincinnati 19-11 for a 39-32 halftime lead.

Cincinnati stays in Texas where it will face No. 2 Houston on Tuesday. TCU hosts 11th-ranked Baylor Monday night.
