TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — Eli Brickhandler threw for one touchdown and ran for a second and Dillon Fedor kicked a pair of field goals to carry Houston Christian to a 27-24 victory over Indiana State on Saturday.

The Huskies (2-3) jumped to a 17-0 lead after a quarter but the Sycamores (1-3) ran for a pair of second-quarter touchdowns to get within a field goal before Calvin Hill powered over from the 3 to cap a nine-play, 78-yard drive to make it 24-14. Houston Christian held a 24-17 advantage at halftime.

Fedor kicked a 21-yard field goal in the third quarter but Indiana State's Elijah Owens scored from the 4 midway through the fourth to get the Sycamores within 3. Indiana State stopped Houston Christian on downs at the Sycamores 36-yard line with 2:44 left to play and drove 53 yards to set up a field goal that would tie the game and force overtime, but Jake Andjelic missed from 29 yards out in the final minute.

Brickhandler completed 12 of his 18 pass attempts for 101 yards and a 3-yard touchdown to Drake Martinez and carried 12 times for 70 yards and nosed in from the 1 for a score. Hill finished with 11 carries for 64 yards.
