High Point wins regional game for the first time, beats Vanderbilt 10-9 on walk-off RBI single

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Miggy Echazarreta hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning and High Point won a regional game for the first time with a 10-9 victory over Vanderbilt on Saturday.

High Point (35-26) will face the Clemson-Coastal Carolina loser in a Clemson Regional elimination game on Sunday. Vanderbilt ends its season (38-23).

High Point's Adam Stuart, who hit a three-run home run in the sixth, reached second on a throwing error by shortstop RJ Austin to open the ninth. Stuart advanced to third on Klingler’s ground out to second before Echazarreta lifted a two-strike pitch to right and scored Stuart to end it.

Vanderbilt led 5-0 before the Panthers combined for nine runs in the sixth and seventh. The Commodores answered with four in the eighth to tie it.

Stuart was 2 for 5 and had five RBIs. Christian Baker (2-0) finished the game for the Panthers, pitching 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts and no runs scored.

Colin Barczi hit a two-run home run to left center for the Commodores in the top of the fourth. Austin was 5 for 5 and had 3 RBIs.
