Houston Christian routs Louisiana Christian 70-7, coach Jason Bachtel gets first win with Huskies

HOUSTON (AP) — Semaj Brown returned the opening kickoff 83 yards for a score and Houston Christian routed NAIA-member Louisiana Christian 70-7 on Saturday night to give coach Jason Bachtel his first victory with the Huskies.

Brown's touchdown was the first of his career and it came on his first kick return.

Eli Brickhandler threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Deuce McMillan for a 15-0 lead. Brickhandler added a 34-yard TD pass to AJ Wilson for a 22-0 advantage with 8:57 left before halftime.

Calvin Hill's 25-yard touchdown run made it 29-0 at halftime.

Darryle Evans had a pair of touchdown runs for Houston Christian (1-2). He capped the scoring with a 66-yard touchdown run late in the game. Evans finished with 122 yards on 12 carries.

Louisiana Christian put together a 15-play, 75-yard scoring drive to pull to 36-7.

Houston Christian’s point total surpasses its previous high — a 68-31 over Texas Southern in 2019.
