Jacksonville State and Smothers do just that putting a blanket over E. Tennessee St. in blowout win

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Quarterback Logan Smothers accounted for three total touchdowns and Jacksonville State dominated East Tennessee State 49-3 on Saturday.

After each team punted on their initial drives, the Buccaneers took a 3-0 lead on Ewan Johnson's 27-yard field goal for their only lead. From there, the Gamecocks (2-0) went on to score seven touchdowns over their final 13 drives.

Smothers scored running in from the 2 and 3 and had a 23-yard scoring pass to Sterling Galban. Ron Wiggins had a 10-yard scoring run, Malik Jackson had a 42-yard scoring run and J'Wan Evans collected both of his scores running in from the 2.

It’s the sixth game in their last 13 the Gamecocks have exceed 40-plus points.

Tyler Riddell threw for 117 yards for ETSU.
