Keyshawn James-Newby's 3 sacks help Idaho get 17-13 win at Wyoming

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Elisha Cummings and Nate Thomas combined for 116 yards rushing, Keyshawn James-Newby had three sacks and Idaho beat Wyoming 17-13 on Saturday.

Trailing 17-13 with 5:00 left, Wyoming started a drive near midfield and made it to the Idaho 38, but James-Newby sacked Evan Svodba for a 9-yard loss and the Cowboys were forced to punt with 2:00 left.

Wyoming (0-2) had its final possession at its 22 before the Vandals collected its fourth sack of Svodba to end it.

It was the second straight game on the road against an FBS-opponent for Idaho (1-1), which lost its season opener 24-14 against then-No. 3 Oregon.

Cummings' 3-yard touchdown run gave Idaho a 7-3 lead midway through the first quarter. Jack Wagner's 2-yard TD pass to Jake Cox capped a 10-play, 75-yard drive gave the Vandals a 14-10 lead early in the second.

Thomas led the Vandals with 64 yards rushing on 15 carries. Cummings ran 16 times and finished with 52 yards. Wagner was 12-of-21 passing for 101 yards. Cameron Pope kicked a 49-yard with 4:40 to play before halftime and the Vandals led 17-10 at halftime.

Svoboda threw one touchdown pass and was 10 of 24 for 126 yards. He added 45 yards on the ground on 14 carries. John Hoyland kicked a 22-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter for the Cowboys.
