Maron boots 29-yarder on final play and Brown rallies from 18-point deficit to top Cornell 23-21

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Christopher Maron booted a 29-yard field goal on the final play, capping a rally from an 18-point deficit and Brown defeated Cornell 23-21 on Saturday.

After falling behind 21-3 with about 4 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter, the Bears reached the end zone on back-to-back drives that totaled 173 yards. Jake Willcox hit Solomon Miller for a 38-yard touchdown that capped a seven-play, 75-yard drive toward the end of the third. Early in the fourth, Qwentin Brown's 1-yard run finished a 12-play, 98-yard drive to make it 21-17.

After Qwentin Brown's touchdown, the Big Red ran a total of seven plays and punted twice on their final two possessions.

After the first punt, the Bears drove 63 yards and Maron kicked a 35-yard field goal that made it 21-20. The Bears forced another punt and drove 75 yards in 16 plays to set up Maron's game-winner.

Jameson Wang's 17-yard touchdown pass to Parker Woodring gave the Big Red a 21-3 lead with 4:39 left until the fourth quarter.

Wang also had a 10-yard run for the game's first score and a 1-yard TD run that made it 14-3 in the third quarter.

Brown's late rally led to 530 yards of total offense for the Bears (3-3, 2-1 Ivy League). Willcox was 35-of-49 passing for 316 yards with a touchdown but he was intercepted three times. Stockton Owen's 79 yards topped Brown's 214-yard rushing attack. Ben Moseley had eight catches for 100 yards.

Wang was 25-of-48 passing for 286 yards with a touchdown. He had 10 of Cornell's 18 rushing attempts and gained 41 yards. The Big Red (2-4, 1-2) were held to 58 rushing yards.

Cornell's Doryn Smith caught eight passes for 122 yards.
