Wicks scores go-ahead touchdown, Henderson makes key stop in Old Dominion victory over Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Keyshawn Wicks scored the go-ahead touchdown early in the fourth quarter, Jason Henderson made the fourth-down stop on a goal line stand, and Old Dominion defeated Southern Mississippi 17-13 on Saturday night.

After Wicks scored his second touchdown on a 16-yard run with 11:19 remaining, Southern Mississippi drove 74 yards in 13 plays and faced fourth-and-goal at the 1-yard line. Frank Gore Jr. took a direct snap and was stopped by Henderson. It was the 17th tackle of the game for ODU's new career leader in that category.

Old Dominion then ran off the final 3:51.

Southern Miss took a 10-lead on the first of two Andrew Stein field goals and an 82-yard punt return by Tiaquelin Mims. The Golden Eagles led 10-7 at halftime and 13-10 heading to the fourth quarter.

ODU's Grant Wilson completed 8 of 18 passes for 194 yards and his 39-yard completion to Ahmarian Granger helped set up Wicks' go-ahead touchdown. Kadarius Calloway had 93 yards rushing for the Monarchs (3-3, 2-1 Sun Belt Conference).

Billy Wiles was 15 of 26 passing for 166 yards and Gore had 65 yards on the ground for the Golden Eagles (1-5, 0-3).
