Chiefs' Fenton off PUP list; DT Shelton agrees to deal
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs cornerback Rashad Fenton returned from the physically unable to perform list on Tuesday, giving him plenty of time to test out his surgically repaired shoulder and ramp up in training camp before the start of the regular season.
Fenton is expected to start along with first-round draft pick Trent McDuffie and breakout star L'Jarius Sneed, though he might be fighting for playing time after missing the entire offseason program. That's because a couple of younger players, including fourth-round pick Joshua Williams, have impressed Kansas City coaches early in camp.
Fenton started eight of his 14 games last season and has appeared in 42 games during his first three NFL seasons.
In other news Tuesday, the Chiefs agreed with veteran defensive tackle Danny Shelton on a contract for the coming season. Shelton was a first-round pick of the Browns in 2005 and spent two seasons with the Patriots and one with the Lions before spending last season with the Giants.
Shelton, who has started 72 games and appeared in 100 over his first seven seasons, is expected to rotate with Derrick Nnadi and Tershawn Wharton alongside three-time Pro Bowl tackle Chris Jones in the middle of the defensive line.
