Commanders' Brian Robinson, Rams' Puka Nacua among best bets to score in Week 5 of NFL season
As prime players continue to get injured, let’s celebrate the best remaining options to find the end zone in Week 5. These are my best bets to score this week.
___
Running Back
BRIAN ROBINSON, COMMANDERS
Robinson, who’s already scored four touchdowns this season, is likely to find the end zone this week against a Bears team that is struggling and is our second-best matchup for opposing RBs. They’ve allowed the second most FPts/G (27.5) to running backs thus far. Robinson has gotten even more involved in the offense this season, adding pass-catching to his repertoire, and Vegas has him at 100 odds to score, the fourth-best odds of any RB this week. Set him and forget him.
JOSH JACOBS, RAIDERS
Jacobs scored for the first time this season in Week 4, and he’s set to continue the trend in Week 5 as he faces the Packers, our fifth-best matchup for opposing running backs this season. He's coming off a week where he had 17 carries and 11 targets. With 130 Vegas odds to score, the fifth best this week, Jacobs is one of this week’s best bets to reach the end zone.
DAVID MONTGOMERY, LIONS
Montgomery has picked right up where Jamaal Williams left off in 2022, scoring TDs for the Lions. Williams was the TD leader in 2022, and Montgomery will definitely push for the title this season, as he already has 5 TDs. He’s in line to add at least one more this week as the Lions are up against the Panthers, who are 10th best against the pass, but the third-best matchup for opposing RBs going into Week 5. He snagged 71% of offensive snaps in Week 4. With a 52.72% TD dependency, Montgomery is going to rack up fantasy points, and many of them will be through finding the end zone.
___
Wide Receiver
PUKA NACUA, RAMS
Much like Montgomery stepping in for Williams in Detroit, Nakua is setting rookie WR records. He’s only scored once this season, but Nakua has perhaps his best chance to hit the end zone this week against an Eagles team that is a top-five run defense, but is also the second-best matchup for opposing WRs this week. If the Rams are going to score, it’s likely going to be through the air. With a 93% snap count going into Week 5, Nakua is primed to continue his run as a fantasy and real life football budding star.
DJ MOORE, BEARS
Targets are piling up for Moore, who had nine looks for an impressive eight catches for 131 yards and a touchdown in Week 4. He’s got another good matchup this week as the Bears take on Washington, our seventh-best matchup for opposing wide receivers. His snap count average of 94% is among the highest in the league for WRs. With a respectable 28.5% TD dependency, Moore is in good position to capitalize in Week 5.
CEEDEE LAMB, COWBOYS
The Cowboys will have their hands full with the 49ers this week, but if there’s a wrinkle in San Francisco, it’s in the passing game, as they’re our 13th-best matchup for opposing WRs. He scored his first TD of 2023 last week, and Lamb is in line to reach the end zone again, because the Cowboys could have an easier time going through the air than on the ground, and Lamb is Dallas’ best offensive playmaker. The Cowboys haven’t needed much offense so far this season, as their defense has been dominant, but they’ll need to score to keep up with the 49ers. Expect Lamb to see targets early and often in this one. He’s a top contender to score in Week 5.
