Rams' David Edwards in concussion protocol, ruled out Monday
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — Rams left guard David Edwards will miss Los Angeles' game at San Francisco on Monday night after reporting possible symptoms of a concussion.
Rams coach Sean McVay said that Edwards “said he was a little bit foggy” after individual drills at practice Saturday. The Rams (2-1) immediately put him in the concussion protocol.
Edwards is in his fourth season as a starter on the Rams' line. The Wisconsin product has started 44 of his 52 games with Los Angeles, and he started all 21 games last season in the Rams' run to their Super Bowl championship.
“It was great for him to be able to kind of communicate,” McVay said. “We took the right steps, especially, with the situation that occurred on Thursday. But really just in general, regardless of whether or not that happened with Tua (Tagovailoa), it’s something we take very serious, and I appreciate him handling it the right way. I know he wants to be out there with his teammates.”
Edwards will miss Monday's game along with starting center Brian Allen and backup right guard Tremayne Anchrum. Bobby Evans is likely to take over at left guard, while Alaric Jackson will play right guard with Coleman Shelton sliding over to center.
Los Angeles' line depth has been seriously tested this fall after the offseason departures of starters Andrew Whitworth and Austin Corbett. Rookie offensive guard Logan Bruss, the Rams' highest draft pick last April, already was ruled out for the season after tearing knee ligaments in their second preseason game.
McVay also ruled out defensive backs David Long (groin) and rookie Cobie Durant (hamstring) for a second straight game, but safety Jordan Fuller and rookie cornerback Derion Kendrick are expected to play despite being limited in practice with injuries.
