SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers signed defensive lineman Cam Sample to a one-year contract on Monday.

Sample entered the league with Cincinnati as a fourth-round pick in 2021 and played 61 games with five starts for the Bengals before leaving for San Francisco in free agency.

Sample had 85 tackles and seven sacks over his career with the Bengals. He missed the entire 2024 season with an Achilles tendon injury but returned last season and had 17 tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble in 14 games for Cincinnati.

Sample has the versatility to rush both inside and outside and gives the Niners another option on the defensive line with Nick Bosa, Mykel Williams and Keion White all recovering from surgery. The three are expected to be back for training camp, but San Francisco wanted to add more depth at the position.
