Cece Kizer's 61st-minute goal leads the KC Current past the OL Reign 1-0
Kansas City, Kan. (AP) — Cece Kizer scored her fifth goal of the season in the 61st minute and the Kansas City Current beat the OL Reign 1-0 in a National Women’s Soccer League match on Friday night.
Kansas City (6-10-0) won for the third time in four regular-season games. The Reign (7-6-3) had their winless streak extended to three games.
Kizer, who entered as a sub in the 55th minute, headed Isabel Rodriguez's cross past a diving Phallon Tullis-Joyce.
Goalkeeper Adrianna Franch kept Kansas City in front by denying Jordyn Huitema's penalty attempt in the 75th minute. Franch has three consecutive clean sheets across all competitions.
Kansas City midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta became the first player in team history to reach 50 appearances.
Kansas City announced an attendance record of 13,455 in its first regular-season match in over a month.
