MADRID (AP) — Raúl García scored with a header deep into stoppage time to give Osasuna a 1-0 win at home against Rayo Vallecano in the Spanish league on Friday.

Osasuna's first win in seven league games lifted it two places into 12th in La Liga. Rayo Vallecano remained 10th, one point clear, but has gone seven league games without a win.

Both sides were evenly matched at Estadio El Sadar and both hit the woodwork early on, but it was Garcia’s persistence that separated the sides.

He came on as a substitute in the 84th minute and got up highest to a corner in the fifth minute of stoppage time for his first goal of the season and sent the home fans away happy.

“I haven’t been doing so well and I needed that goal,” Garcia told Movistar. “We have needed a win like this, even if we never played that well. I am here to help and I have to wait for my chance and take my chances when they come.”
