Gil scores twice in Revolution's 3-3 draw with Atlanta United
ATLANTA (AP) — Carles Gil scored in the first minute of the match and again in the third minute of second-half stoppage time to rally the New England Revolution to a 3-3 draw with Atlanta United on Wednesday night.
Gil scored unassisted 30 seconds into the match for the Revolution (7-3-5) and Bobby Wood stretched the lead to 2-0 at halftime when he took a pass from Emmanuel Boateng in the 37th minute and scored for a fifth time this season.
Atlanta United (6-4-6) stormed back in the second half.
Giorgos Giakoumakis cut the deficit in half, scoring unassisted in the 56th minute. Giakoumakis has nine goals in 12 appearances — seven starts — in his first season in the league. He has yet to pick up an assist.
Thiago Almada used an assist from Matheus Rossetto to score the equalizer in the 74th minute. Almada has seven goals and a league-high eight assists this season.
Atlanta United grabbed the lead after Miguel Berry subbed in in the 84th minute and scored his first goal of the season three minutes later.
Gil helped the Revolution leave with a point with his fifth netter this season — also unassisted.
Brad Guzan did not make a save for Atlanta United. Djordje Petrovic saved four shots for New England.
Atlanta United went 5-0-2 in the first seven meetings with New England, but the Revs have gone 3-0-2 since then.
The Revolution travel to play New York City FC on Saturday. Atlanta United is idle.
