Richy Ledezma joins NYC of MLS on loan from Dutch club

NEW YORK (AP) — Midfielder Richy Ledezma, his career slowed by injuries, is joining Major League Soccer's New York City from the Dutch club PSV Eindhoven.

NYC said Friday it acquired the 22-year-old on an intraleague loan from Real Salt Lake through the end of the 2023 season for $50,000 in general allocation money this year and a second-round MLS draft pick in 2024. Real Salt Lake could receive an additional $50,000 in 2024 GAM based on performance incentives. There is no option to buy at the end of the loan.

Ledezma grew up in Phoenix and made his pro debut in 2018 for the lower-tier Real Monarchs. He made his PSV debut on Nov. 1, 2020, and his U.S. national team debut that Nov. 16 when he had a pair of assists in an exhibition against Panama. He tore his right ACL in his sixth game for the club, during a Europa League match against the Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia that Dec. 10.

He returned on Dec. 23, 2021, in the first of five appearances during the 2021-22 season as second-half substitute, and he played the second half of this season’s opening match against Emmen on Aug. 6. He injured an ankle in his first start for PSV Eindhoven in 20 months on Aug. 13 and didn't play for the first team until Oct. 1.

Ledezma played 10 matches for PSV this season, one since November.
