Roman Reigns addressed his relationship with Paul Heyman

With his “special counsel” Paul Heyman by his side, Universal Champion Roman Reigns addressed the WWE Universe, saying that he did exactly what he said he would at WWE Payback: wreck everyone and leave with the title. He also made it clear that the blue brand is his island. Heyman explained that he is here to make sure that The Big Dog is treated like the star he is.

Heavy Machinery def. The Miz & John Morrison

Heavy Machinery emerged victorious from this tag team battle, but their opponents had ulterior motives. Otis pinned The Awesome One with a massive splash off the second rope, but Miz & Morrison’s work was not done at the bell. JoMo sprang into action, snatching Otis’ Money in the Bank briefcase and dashing off before Otis or Tucker could get him. However, it was later revealed that Morrison grabbed the wrong briefcase. Instead of the Money in the Bank contract, JoMo snatched a briefcase containing a sandwich.=

Sheamus smashed Big E through a windshield

Big E was ready for tonight, not only because he was competing in the Fatal 4-Way for an opportunity at the Universal Championship, but because it was his good friend and tag team partner Xavier Woods’ birthday. Cake in hand, Big E was ready to greet Woods as he arrived at WWE ThunderDome at Amway Center. Instead, he walked right into an ambush by Sheamus. The Celtic Warrior clobbered Big E with a Brogue Kick into a garage door, then capped off the assault by driving him through the windshield of a car with White Noise.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax def. Sasha Banks & Bayley

Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax were simply devastating in their first defense of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. The Boss and the SmackDown Women’s Champion threw everything they had at the champions, but there was no overcoming them. The challengers’ fate was sealed when Banks attempted to crush Baszler with double knees in the corner but instead connected with the ring post.

That gave The Queen of Spades a target to pick apart, weakening The Boss. However, The Irresistible Force picked up the fall in her SmackDown debut, crushing Banks & Bayley with a cross-body off the top rope to get the three-count and retain the titles.

Bayley brutalized Sasha Banks

After the match, Banks was clearly in pain, but she refused medical attention when trainers and EMTs arrived to help her. It looked as though Bayley was going to help her best friend out of the ring, but she instead unleashed a shocking attack on The Boss. The SmackDown Women’s Champion slammed Banks’ leg into the steel ring steps before stomping on it and brutally beating The Boss around ringside. As Bayley wrapped a steel chair around her leg, Banks tried to fight back, only for Bayley to knock her out with a knee to the head. The brutality did not end there, as Bayley wrapped the steel chair around Banks’ neck, then jumped off the second rope, stomping the chair as a sadistic smile crossed her face.

The Intercontinental Championship picture intensified

Although Jeff Hardy won the Intercontinental Championship two weeks ago from AJ Styles, the title picture is anything but clear. Sami Zayn once again arrived on SmackDown with his own title, claiming to be the true champion, while Styles showed up saying he is the uncrowned champion. It didn’t take long for physicality to ensue, as Hardy dropped Styles with a Twist of Fate, but he found himself on the receiving end of a Helluva Kick from Zayn.

Jey Uso def. King Corbin, Sheamus & Matt Riddle to earn a Universal Title Match at WWE Clash of Champions

With Big E out of action, Jey Uso took the final spot in the Fatal 4-Way to determine who will challenge Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WWE Clash of Champions. And Jey Uso made the most of the opportunity. In a hard-hitting main event, Uso connected with a huge Frog Splash on Matt Riddle to get the three-count and earn a Universal Title opportunity against his cousin at WWE Clash of Champions.

During a post-match interview in the ring, a fired-up and battle-torn Uso told his cousin that he’s not the only one making the family proud, and he let out a celebratory “Woo!” as SmackDown concluded.

Big E, Matt Riddle, King Corbin and Sheamus will battle for Universal Title opportunity

Four of the blue brand’s most electric Superstars will have a golden opportunity on Friday Night SmackDown. Big E, Matt Riddle, King Corbin and Sheamus will face off for a Universal Title opportunity at WWE Clash of Champions.

Two rivalries will share the ring, as Big E defeated Sheamus, and Matt Riddle vanquished King Corbin at WWE Payback. Roman Reigns sent shockwaves through the WWE Universe by regaining the Universal Title that same night.
