Drew McIntyre confronted Randy Orton
Monday Night Raw kicked off with The Viper, who addressed the WWE Universe from the Legends Lounge, recalling his ruthless attack on Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Big Show and Christian in painfully detailed fashion. The Viper then said he would not stop until he is once again WWE Champion, issuing a challenge to Drew McIntyre to meet him inside Hell in a Cell. The WWE Champion then arrived, ready to take Orton to Hell a little earlier than expected. McIntyre pounced on The Apex Predator until he was pulled off by WWE officials, giving The Viper an opening to slither away.
Asuka, Mandy Rose & Dana Brooke def. Zelina Vega, Natalya & Lana
In Raw’s opening match, the Raw Women’s Champion joined forces with Monday night’s newest tag team, Mandy Rose & Dana Brooke, to battle Zelina Vega, Natalya & Lana. Despite the best efforts of Vega to distract her opponents, The Golden Goddess rocked Lana with a knee strike to get the three-count.
The Ravishing Russian’s night did not end there, though. WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler arrived and seemed ready to plant Natalya through the commentary desk, until Lana came to her rescue. Unfortunately, Jax then grabbed The Ravishing Russian and drove her through the table with a Samoan Drop for the third consecutive week.
Drew Gulak dressed as a janitor to win the 24/7 Title from R-Truth
R-Truth was in the middle of a mock WWE Draft when Drew Gulak, taking a page out of Randy Orton’s book by dressing as a janitor, ambushed him. Truth tried to escape, but he tripped over a bucket, allowing Gulak to pin him and become 24/7 Champion.
Seth Rollins & Murphy def. Dominik Mysterio & Humberto Carrillo
Before this tag team battle, Murphy confronted The Monday Night Messiah, demanding an apology from Rollins for revealing his DMs with Aalyah Mysterio. That incensed Rollins, who sternly reminded his disciple about who holds the power in their relationship. But before their argument could escalate, Dominik Mysterio & Humberto Carrillo arrived for their tag team battle.
Rollins and his disciple were not on the same page during the bout, allowing the son of Rey Mysterio and his partner to take control of the match. The high-flying duo looked to be on their way to victory until Murphy clobbered a mid-flight Carrillo with a knee to get the win. After the match, Rollins confronted his disciple in the backstage area, giving Murphy until 10 p.m. to apologize for his actions.
Bray Wyatt gave Kevin Owens a warning ahead of his battle with The Fiend
Just days removed from being attacked by The Fiend, Kevin Owens arrived for what turned out to be an unusual edition of “The KO Show.” First, Bray Wyatt interrupted with a new missive from the Firefly Fun House, singing a song to Owens about the true meaning of friendship and giving him a warning about what lies ahead for him this Friday, when he takes on The Fiend on SmackDown.
But Owens still wanted a piece of Wyatt, and he went to seek him out. His search was cut short when Aleister Black attacked him from behind, then decked him with Black Mass.
Keith Lee and Braun Strowman’s Exhibition Match ended in a double count-out
Braun Strowman came to Raw looking for a fight. While WWE official Adam Pearce couldn’t give him an official match, he could offer The Monster an Exhibition Match – a non-sanctioned battle that would not count toward either man’s win/loss record. Keith Lee immediately stepped up and volunteered to fight Strowman.
The two titans clashed and could not be contained by the ring, leading to both men being counted out. But that did not stop the two bruisers from continuing to engage. First, Strowman tackled Lee through the ringside barricade. Then, Lee got back to his feet and brawled back up the ramp before hurling The Monster into the LED boards, then spearing him off the entrance ramp.
R-Truth regained the 24/7 Championship inside a dumpster
Drew Gulak managed to last an hour as 24/7 Champion. But while he vowed to always be alert, R-Truth popped out of a nearby dumpster, ready to reclaim his baby. Gulak also had to contend with Akira Tozawa, who was hiding in a trash can himself. The struggle spilled into the dumpster, and Truth emerged from the trash heap a 42-time 24/7 Champion.
Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin def. Ricochet & Apollo Crews
After Ricochet turned down MVP’s offer to join The Hurt Business, Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin were given specific directions to punish him during this tag team affair. And that they did.
Bobby Lashley steamrolled over Apollo Crews, planting him into the canvas with a spinebuster before cinching in the Hurt Lock to get the submission win for The Hurt Business.
Aalyah Mysterio stopped Seth Rollins from continuing to attack Murphy
The deadline for an apology arrived, and Murphy did not. Instead, he tackled The Monday Night Messiah to the mat and pummeled him all around ringside. Rollins attempted to bring a Kendo stick into the fray, but his disciple got ahold of it and began to beat his seemingly former leader with it, demanding an apology to Aalyah Mysterio.
Shockingly, Rollins relented, apologizing to the daughter of Rey Mysterio. But that was only a ruse, as The Monday Night Messiah pounced on Murphy, clawing at his eyes and using the Kendo stick on his disciple. Once the stick was reduced to shards, Rollins went to grab a steel chair to continue the attack, but when he slid back into the ring, he found Aalyah pleading with him to stop. The rest of the Mysterio family arrived soon after, forcing Rollins to retreat as they wondered what Aalyah had gotten herself into.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler def. The Riott Squad
At the start of this championship showdown, Ruby Riott & Liv Morgan used double-team offense and speedy tags to keep Nia Jax down. However, it wasn’t long before The Irresistible Force got back to her feet and overpowered the challengers. Then, Baszler tagged into the match and went to work on the previously injured shoulder of Riott. Ruby fought through the immense pain, got back to her corner and tagged Morgan. Liv brought the fight to both of the champions, but she was stopped in her tracks by Jax.
The Riott Squad fought valiantly, but Jax & Baszler retained their titles when Riott tapped out to the Kirifuda Clutch as Jax forced Morgan to watch.
Mustafa Ali unleashed RETRIBUTION on The Hurt Business
Ahead of this battle with MVP, Mustafa Ali declared that MVP could bring The Hurt Business with him, but Ali would be fighting this battle alone.
That looked to be a poor choice, as MVP, Lashley & Benjamin trapped him in the corner. But before they could do any damage, the lights in the WWE ThunderDome went out, signaling the arrival of RETRIBUTION. Ali seemed as though he was going to align with The Hurt Business to fight off the vigilantes. In fact, MVP, Lashley & Benjamin were all smiles as Ali walked out of the ring and stared down T-BAR and Mace. But the smiles were quickly wiped off their faces as Ali turned back toward them and issued an order to the vigilantes: “Get ‘em.”
With that, RETRIBUTION unleashed hell on The Hurt Business, taking out all three members in ruthless fashion. With Ali seemingly revealing himself as the mastermind behind the operation, just what chaos does RETRIBUTION have planned for WWE?
Randy Orton, Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode def. Drew McIntyre & The Street Profits
The WWE Champion and the Raw Tag Team Champions were out for payback after Randy Orton’s attack on the Legends Lounge last week. But it would be hard to come by in this battle, as The Viper was out to unleash his brand of brutality after Drew McIntyre accepted his WWE Hell in a Cell challenge.
He did just that, slamming Montez Ford into the commentary table, among other ruthless acts. McIntyre was laser-focused on punishing Orton, which may have led to his downfall. The WWE Champion had The Viper in his sights for a Claymore, until Robert Roode forced him to take his eyes off Orton. McIntyre dropped Roode with a Claymore, but he turned around into an RKO that gave Orton an all-important victory heading into their WWE Title Hell in a Cell Match on Oct. 25.
What will be the fallout of Randy Orton’s ruthless attack on Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Big Show & Christian?
Last Monday’s Raw came to a shocking conclusion when Randy Orton donned a pair of night vision goggles, cut out the lights in the Legends Lounge and unleashed a brutal steel chair attack on Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Big Show and Christian.
With The Viper warning that there would be hell to pay for anyone who has crossed him, what will he do next?
