WWE 205 Live: Jan. 15, 2021
In a pair of Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Matches, Killian Dain and Drake Maverick used unorthodox methods to claim a win over Curt Stallion and August Grey, while Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza outlasted The Bollywood Boyz.
205 Live results: Jan. 15, 2021: Dain and Maverick triumph in epic thriller against Stallion and Grey
Joaquin Wilde & Raul Mendoza def. The Bollywood Boyz
The Bollywood Boyz regularly try to coax 205 Live announcers Vic Joseph And Nigel McGuinness into a pre-match dance, and Joseph finally acquiesced by promising to dance with Samir and Sunil if they win the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Despite the pre-match antics, Samir and Sunil enjoyed the early advantage, at least until Mendoza distracted Samir from ringside, and Wilde capitalized by nearly driving his unsuspecting foe through the canvas with a DDT.
Sunil briefly caught fire after receiving a tag, slamming each of his foes’ heads off the announce table, and The Bollywood Boyz came within a heartbeat of victory with a combination of a superplex and a top-rope elbow drop to Mendoza, but Wilde interrupted the count just in time. Moments later, a vicious double-team maneuver to Sunil propelled Legado del Fantasma into the second round, much to the delight of the smirking Escobar at ringside.
Now that they’ve advanced to the second round, Wilde & Mendoza will take on the winner of Gran Metalik & Lince Dorado vs. Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner.
Killian Dain & Drake Maverick def. Curt Stallion & August Grey
The WWE Universe probably shouldn’t get too used to the sight of Killian Dain on 205 Live, but the colossal competitor made quite the impact in his debut appearance, barreling around the ring like a runaway locomotive and leading to a win over Curt Stallion & August Grey in the first round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
After receiving an early tag from Maverick, Dain introduced himself by immediately hurling Grey into the turnbuckles, and after tagging Maverick back in, he hoisted his partner onto his shoulders and rammed Maverick’s feet into Stallion and Grey. He followed up by chucking Maverick over the top rope and onto their opponents at ringside.
Grey responded by superkicking Dain right into a German suplex from Stallion, but Maverick interrupted the count.
In rapid succession, Maverick took out Grey with a crossbody and Dain powerbombed Stallion, but when Maverick went for a high-five, Dain instead powerbombed the former 205 Live General Manager on top of Stallion for the 1-2-3.
With the win, Dain and Maverick are set for a second-round collision with MSK, who defeated Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and Jake Atlas two days prior on NXT.
