Jonathan Aybar - Available again Aybar (undisclosed) logged two points (1-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and one rebound across his 16 minutes during Florida International's 70-63 loss Saturday at Jacksonville State.

Impact Fortunately for Aybar, he was out only once due to the undisclosed problem that caused his DNP of Florida International's game Dec. 30 at Utah Tech. But perhaps because the junior student recently became available, he was limited to playing fewer than 20 minutes again. One-game absences followed by restricted game time have been a frequent occurrence for Aybar since December. Ideally for him, he can get back to November form, which includes him averaging 9.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals across nine games.

Impact Aybar was unable to last up the sneakers last time out, but he participated fully in practice Friday and appears set to make his return to action Saturday. Aybar has racked up 7.7 points, 3.8 boards, 1.4 assists and 1.3 steals per contest for FIU this season while shooting 57.4 percent from the field and 76.2 percent from the charity stripe, both career-best marks.

Impact After starting the first nine games of the year and averaging 9.6 points and 4.4 rebounds over that span, Aybar sat out a Dec. 2 contest against LIU-Brooklyn. He was back in the starting lineup 11 days later against Florida Atlantic but ended up being held scoreless in just 10 minutes on the court of a 34-point loss. He sat out entirely again Saturday, though it's worth noting that the scheduled game came against a well overmatched DII opponent. If this was just a regular maintenance day to help get Aybar closer to 100 percent, he'll hopefully be available Tuesday against Stetson.

Aybar had been a key contributor for FIU, starting all nine prior games and reaching double figures in his last four, putting him on pace for a career-best 9.6 ppg. He'll have plenty of time to recuperate from whatever is ailing him, as FIU doesn't play another game until Dec. 13 at Florida Atlantic.
