Eric Gaines - Fills in admirably for PinsonGaines recorded 15 points (4-10 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 6-7 FT), four rebounds, two assists and one block in 34 minutes during Wednesday's 64-58 win over Florida.
ImpactGaines made just his second start of the season with Xavier Pinson (knee) sidelined, and he ended up recording a season-best scoring total while reaching double figures for the first time since Dec. 22. The sophomore was pivotal down the stretch in this one, as when Florida cut the lead to two with 1:37 remaining, Gaines answered right back with a bucket of his own. He also assisted an Alex Fudge dunk on what ended up being the final score of the game. With Pinson considered day-to-day due to a MCL sprain and bone bruise, it's possible Gaines sees a few more chances to shine in a featured ball-handling role.
