Impact While it was Dain Dainja who picked up the start at center and played more minutes, the impact of Cisse was felt greater on both ends of the court. Cisse was a regular starter in all three previous destinations, and is now back to Memphis, where his career began. He's clearly came out with a purpose in hopes of finding his first ever NCAA Tournament berth in 2024-25, his fifth and final collegiate season.

Impact Smith is being held out of the contest reportedly as a "precautionary" measure. After some murkiness about Smith's status on the Memphis roster, it appears the forward is firmly on the team, but he won't play in the Tigers' final scrimmage of the preseason. Smith's ankle injury doesn't sound all that serious given the "precautionary" nature of his absence, but his status for Memphis' opener on Nov. 4 against Missouri is in doubt.

Impact Fortunately for Cisse, just under two weeks between Memphis' latest and upcoming exhibition was enough to recover from his groin injury, which he had been battling across much of October. Ideally, Monday gives at least somewhat of an indication as to what role he will have for the Tigers following his college transfer from Mississippi.

Impact According to Hitmen Hoops, Smith informed Memphis' head coach Penny Hardaway of his decision to step away from the team program. But fast-forward two days later, and the redshirt senior is back to practicing with Memphis. Smith's current status is a little murky in terms of whether he will stay at or leave. However, the Tigers have another exhibition game scheduled for Oct. 28 at Alabama. Perhaps that matchup can provide some much-needed clarity on Smith's overall availability.

Impact Haggerty did his best to beat a talented UNC squad, but it just wasn't enough as fellow backcourt guard Tyrese Hunter and Colby Rogers both struggled from the field. Haggerty is coming off a big season at Tulsa in which he averaged 21.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.9 steals per contest. Those numbers are probably extreme to expect on a talented Memphis team, but clearly he will be amongst the best players in the American. Memphis begins the season on Nov. 9 against UNLV.

Impact According to Munz, there was a brief run when Hunter scored five straight baskets for Memphis. But afterward, he had been out for the last stretch of the game, as confirmed by Jonah Dylan of The Commercial Appeal and with no further reports of an injury. Hunter will look to establish at least some better consistency as Memphis' regular-season schedule looms forward.
