Out for season Whitehead (upper body) will miss the entirety of the 2022 season after undergoing season ending surgery, Trey Wallace of OutKick-Fox reports.

Impact Whitehead will be sidelined during his sophomore year after enduring an upper body injury. As a freshman, Whitehead rushed for 207 yards and two touchdowns. He was fifth on the team in rushing yards last season and was predicted to have even more of an impact on the team this season following Tiyon Evans' decision to transfer.

Near 100% healthy Whitehead (shoulder) was participating in drills and was near 100% healthy for spring practices back in April, Terry A. Lambert of sbnation.com reports.

Impact After missing the entire 2020 season due to a couple different injuries, Whitehead is expected to be fully healthy for the 2021 season. There was speculation that he may be moved to linebacker after several Volunteers' linebackers entered the transfer portal or were suspended, but those rumors have been put to rest. If the redshirt freshman does see playtime in the fall, it will very likely be in the backfield.
