Impact Loveland's status remains up in the air for Week 5 with Pete Thamel appearing on "College Football Live" stating the junior tight end will come down to a game-time call. Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore said the tight end has been "doing better" this week after sustaining a shoulder injury against Arkansas State in Week 3. Loveland has been a massive part of Michigan's delicate passing game, hauling in 19 receptions for 187 yards and a score across three games, and his absence could slow down the Wolverines at home against Minnesota.

Donovan Edwards - Scores in victory Edwards logged 14 carries for 74 yards and one touchdown and reeled in their only target for nine yards during Saturday's 27-24 win versus USC.

Impact Most of Edwards' production on the day came on a 41-yard scamper in the second quarter, giving the Wolverines a 14-0 lead. The senior running back has been inconsistent to start the 2024 season, recording a number of the trademark explosive plays that have highlighted his career in Ann Arbor, while also struggling to gain consistent yardage on a game-by-game basis. With fellow running back Kalel Mullings continuing to show his potential, Edwards may be thrust into more of a backup role than previously anticipated this season. A home matchup against Minnesota awaits on Saturday.

Kalel Mullings - Carries offense in victory Mullings notched 17 carries for 159 yards and two touchdowns and caught their only target for two yards during Saturday's 27-24 win versus USC.

Impact Mullings was the driving force behind the Michigan offense on a day in which they attempted just 12 passes overall. The senior back scored on a 53-yard scamper to open the scoring in the first quarter, though his biggest contributions came on the Wolverines' game-winning drive. Mullings accounted for a 63-yard run to get the Wolverines into the red zone and continued to wear the defense down until finally breaking through the defense on a one-yard touchdown plunge to give Michigan the lead with under a minute remaining. Though fellow running back Donovan Edwards had explosive plays against the Trojans as well, Mullings has been the leader of the Michigan backfield through the team's first four games, running for 429 yards and four scores in that timeframe. A home matchup against Minnesota on Saturday will serve as Mullings' next opportunity to separate himself as head of the backfield.

Alex Orji - Quiet day in victory Orji was 7-for-12 passing for 32 yards during Saturday's 27-24 victory over USC. He also had 13 rushes for 43 yards.

Impact Orji completed just seven passes on a day in which the Michigan offense relied heavily on the running attack against what turned out to be a vulnerable USC defense. Despite the lack of volume, Orji did what he needed to do, completing passes in big moments, including a big completion on second-and-11 deep in Michigan's territory on the game-winning drive. The junior quarterback clearly has work to do with his arm before he can be expected to be a contributor on offense, but his rushing upside along with the conservative offensive approach of the Michigan coaching staff will likely continue to give him opportunities to use his legs to make plays. It remains to be seen whether Orji or Davis Warren will start Saturday's game against Minnesota, and the position battle will be worth monitoring moving forward.

Colston Loveland - Could play vs. Minnesota Loveland (shoulder) is reportedly "doing a lot better" according to head coach Sherrone Moore and could play against the Gophers, Aaron McMann of MLive.com reports.

Impact Loveland missed the Wolverines big-time win over USC at the Big House in Week 4. The tight end has been essentially Michigan's only receiving threat this season with 19 catches for 187 yards and a score through the three games he's played. It remains questionable if he'll play this week against Minnesota, but if the tight end does return, it'll help open up a Michigan passing attack now led by Alex Orji at gunslinger.
