Impact While Ervin was the first back to receive a touch Saturday, it was Markese Stepp who would up with the vast majority and turned in 101 rushing yards on 18 carries. This could signal a changing of the guard moving forward and it will be worth keeping an eye out for the depth chart ahead of Week 2.

Impact After a subpar showing against Illinois in the opener, Martinez bounced back against a team that the Huskers should have had no issue beating soundly. Next up is a Buffalo team that is coming off a league-winning 2020 campaign, followed by a showdown with former Big 12 rival Oklahoma before Big Ten play fires up.

Impact Martin's issue isn't believed to be a major one, so it seems the opponent likely played a factor as well. Assuming it's a small problem as described, Martin should be back in the fold next week against Buffalo.

Impact Morrison was mentioned as a possible contributor in the Nebraska backfield heading into the opener but it was Gabe Ervin who saw the most carries among the running backs.
