Texas reportedly to fire Charlie Strong Saturday morning
The Texas Longhorns appear to be ready to pull the trigger and fire head football coach Charlie Strong after three seasons in Austin, according to multiple reports.
Strong's fate in Austin hasbeen in question for weeks. And following a loss to Kansas last week and a season-ending loss to TCU Friday, Texas administrators apparently have decided to buy him out of the final two years of his contract at an expected cost of more than $10 million.
Texas is reportedly eyeing Houston coach Tom Herman to replace Strong. Herman led the Cougars to a Sugar Bowl win last season and victories over Oklahoma and Louisville this year.
Herman is also reportedly in negotiations with LSU, who fired head coach Les Miles in September, and in discussions with Oregon, per HornsDigest.
Texas is expected to be able to beat out both competing schools for Herman's services, should they act quickly upon firing Strong, who was 16-21 in three years in Austin, never posting a winning season.
Sources just told me Charlie Strong will be dismissed tomorrow morning. @ChipBrownHD reported a minute ago...
