Kenny Odom - Finds end zone Odom caught two passes for 64 yards and a touchdown versus Liberty on Saturday.

Impact Odom was only targeted once in Week 1 against Nebraska, but since then things gave gone better. He had five catches for 97 yards in Week 2, and now he's broken off a 60-yard touchdown against a conference opponent.

Kam Thomas - Another eight catches Thomas caught eight passes for 68 yards versus Liberty on Saturday.

Impact Skyler Locklear is in his first year as a starting quarterback and he clearly has a plan: Throw the ball to Thomas as much as possible. The Austin Peay transfer already has 20 catches through only three games. Don't worry about the 8.5 yards per reception here. Thomas returns punts and kicks, and they don't let you do that if you aren't a dynamic athlete.

Jevon Jackson - Rushes for 67 yards Jackson ran 15 times for 67 yards versus Liberty on Saturday.

Impact With every game this season, Jackson's yards per carry has improved. That's encouraging, given he was a star with Austin Peay at the FCS level last season. There is a concern in the fact he hasn't rushed for a TD, though.

Skyler Locklear - Throws TD, two INTs Locklear went 26-for-43 for 244 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions against Liberty on Saturday. He also ran for 20 yards on 13 rushes.

Impact Locklear is in his first year as a starter, and his first year as an FBS quarterback. It hasn't always been easy. He's thrown three picks and he has fumbled twice, though he hasn't lost one yet. Still, head coach Scotty Walden recruited him to Austin Peay and brought him along, and Locklear has a touchdown in every game. This is a transitional year, and Locklear will likely get the chance to earn vital game reps in preparation for 2025.

Kam Thomas - Tallies 99 yards receiving Thomas caught five passes for 99 yards versus Southern Utah on Saturday.

Impact So far, Thomas has been the player brought along from Austin Peay who has taken to the FBS the best. Yes, Southern Utah is an FCS opponent, but Thomas has 12 catches for 170 yards and a touchdown and is also a kick and punt returner.

Jevon Jackson - Catches TD Jackson ran 20 times for 80 yards and caught four passes for 22 yards and a touchdown against Southern Utah on Saturday.

Impact Last year, as Austin Peay's lead back, Jackson only had 11 catches all season, so these four catches feels anomalous in what is the same offense ported over to UTEP. He's only averaged 3.7 yards per carry, so that is a bit of a concern, but he remains the top back for the Miners.

Skyler Locklear - Tallies two TDs Locklear went 22-for-29 for 295 yards and a touchdown against Southern Utah on Saturday. He also ran 15 time for 47 yards and a score.

Impact While the UTEP offense hasn't gotten humming, Locklear has proven viable as a starting quarterback. He hasn't been dynamic by any means, but he's keeping the offense moving and as a brand-new starter, he has room to grow.

Impact Of all the guys who followed Scotty Walden from Austin Peay to UTEP, Thomas had the easiest transition to the FBS level in Week 1. These are good numbers, especially for a game in Lincoln against a Matt Rhule defense. Now, Thomas is only 5'7'', so he's undersized, but he seems like he can handle a slot role in Conference USA.

Impact Jackson is one of many players who followed head coach Scotty Walden from Austin Peay to UTEP. In a fast-paced FCS offense, Jackson ran for 1,373 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. Visiting Nebraska in his first game as an FBS back was a dose of reality for Jackson.

Shay Smith - Sees the field in UTEP's opener Smith went 2-for-2 for 14 yards against Nebraska on Saturday.

Impact Skyler Locklear, who followed new UTEP head coach Scotty Walden from Austin Peay, was the starter. Cade McConnell, who played for UTEP last season, saw time as well. What's notable is that Smith, a true freshman, also got to see the field a bit. Sure, it was garbage time, but it opens the door to the possibility Smith, not McConnell, will be the backup quarterback.

Impact Locklear followed Scotty Walden from Austin Peay, and Walden installed him as starting quarterback for his first game in charge at UTEP. This was not likely to be an easy matchup, especially for a first-time starter, and it wasn't. Locklear faces Southern Utah next. That game should tell us a bit more.

Impact McConnell was competing with Skyler Locklear for the starting quarterback role, but McConnell, a JUCO transfer who redshirted at UTEP in 2023, lost the battle. Locklear will be the starter at Nebraska on Saturday.
