Goes back-to-back at Sawgrass Scheffler became the first player to win The Players Championship in consecutive years after firing an eight-under 64 on Sunday to best the field by one stroke. Impact For much of the week the story, and concern, with World No. 1 was a neck injury that put him in discomfort. So much so he had to even get treatment on the course in the second round and labored a bit on some of his shots on Friday and Saturday. Scheffler would battle to birdie the final three holes in the third round to put him within five shots going to the final round. What sparked everything was a hole-out eagle on the par 4 4th hole. From there, Scheffler picked right back up from where he was last Sunday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational climbing up the leaderboard. He was able to post 20-under-par in the clubhouse and had to wait while Brian Harman, Xander Schauffele and Wyndham Clark all took shots at him. Fortunately for Scheffler, they would all just finish a shot shy and the Texan extended his lead in the OWGR and FedExCup with his eighth PGA Tour victory. Hopefully that neck issue will not cause him an issues going forward because it looks as if Scheffler just can't be stopped when healthy right now. He will not play next week, but is expected to be in the field the following week for the Houston Open.
