College Football Playoff highlights: Notre Dame headed to semifinals with 23-10 win over Georgia

The second round of the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff came to a close on Tuesday with a Sugar Bowl showdown between No. 5 seed Notre Dame and No. 2 seed Georgia at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans that saw the Fighting Irish leave victorious.

The game, which was originally scheduled for Monday night in New Orleans, was postponed in the wake of a deadly truck attack overnight.

Notre Dame will take on Penn State in the semifinals on Jan. 9 in the Orange Bowl.

On New Year's Day, No. 5 seed Texas defeated No. 4 seed Arizona State in the Peach Bowl in a double-overtime thriller.The Rose Bowl wasn't as tense, with No. 8 seed Ohio State dominating top-seeded Oregon. Texas and Ohio State will meet in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 10 to battle for a spot in the title game. On New Year's Eve, No. 6 seed Penn State kicked off the quarterfinals with a decisive win over No. 3 seed Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl.
