
MLB Wild Card Series: Dodgers Only Team to Advance, Yankees Avoid Elimination
The Wild Card Series continued with a full slate of games on Wednesday. Beginning the day, the AL Central champion Cleveland Guardians forced a Game 3 by beating the Detroit Tigers, thanks to a five-run eighth inning. Then, the San Diego Padres were able to do the same, extending their series against the Chicago Cubs.
The New York Yankees became the third team to stave off elimination, beating the visiting Boston Red Sox 4-3.
In the nightcap, the Los Angeles Dodgers ousted the Cincinnati Reds and became the first team to advance out of the Wild Card round. They will face the NL East champions, Philadelphia Phillies, in the Division Series starting Saturday, Oct. 4.
