Chris Sale - Activated ahead of Friday's start Sale (shoulder) was activated from the 60-day injured list Friday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Impact Sale will make his long-awaited return to the Red Sox' rotation on Friday against the Tigers following a two-month absence due to a stress reaction in his left scapula. The veteran left-hander threw just 54 pitches in his second of two rehab starts with Triple-A Worcester and is expected to be limited to around four innings against Detroit, so fantasy managers would be wise to wait to activate him, if possible.

Pablo Reyes - Two hits from leadoff spot Reyes batted leadoff and went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Royals.

Impact It was an odd move to have Reyes, who had not batted higher than sixth in the order before Thursday, atop the order. In a related move, manager Alex Cora dropped Jarren Duran from leadoff to seventh. As Cora explained to Christopher Smith of MassLive.com, the moves were adjustments to the Royals using a left-handed opener, Austin Cox, with righty Alex Marsh scheduled for bulk innings. Reyes entered the game 11-for-24 (.458) against lefties. Duran typically sits against southpaw starters, but due to Kansas City's plan to use a righty in a bulk role, Cora wanted him to get at-bats Thursday.

Jarren Duran - Dropped to seventh Duran batted seventh and went 0-for-2 with a walk in Thursday's 2-0 win over Kansas City.

Impact Duran has been the team's leadoff hitter the last month and usually sits against a lefty. The Royals used left-hander Austin Cox as an opener and planned to have righty Alec Marsh throw bulk innings, and Red Sox manager Alex Cora had Duran in the lineup to get at-bats against a righty. As it turned out, Cox threw two innings and faced Duran for his first at-bat. Marsh eventually finished off the game. The Red Sox open a series Friday against Detroit, which will start lefty Tarik Skubal, so expect Duran to sit in favor of Rob Refsnyder.

Kenley Jansen - Secures another save Jansen earned a save against the Royals on Thursday, striking out two batters in a perfect inning of work.

Impact Jansen threw 11 of 16 pitches for a strike while retiring the side in order in the ninth, getting a strikeout to begin and end the frame. The veteran reliever picked up his second save in as many days and boosted his season total to 26, tied for eighth in the majors. Jansen is up to 417 saves in his career, five away from Billy Wagner for sixth place all-time.

James Paxton - Bounces back for seventh victory Paxton (7-3) earned the win over Kansas City on Thursday, allowing six hits and no walks while striking out six batters over 5.1 scoreless innings.

Impact Paxton gave up three homers and four runs over five innings against Toronto in his previous start, but he rebounded with a strong effort Thursday. Though he needed 98 pitches to get through 5.1 frames, the left-hander kept the Royals off the scoreboard and didn't issue a walk for just the second time in 15 starts this season. Paxton continues to enjoy a career resurgence at age 34 -- through 80.1 innings, he's posted a 3.36 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 90:22 K:BB.
