Impact Whitlock pitched well in his rehab debut Wednesday with Triple-A Worcester, striking out three of the nine batters he faced over 2.1 scoreless frames. Out since early July due to a bone bruise in his right elbow, the 27-year-old is expected to operate as a multi-inning reliever down the stretch. He could happen into some wins and a save or two in that role.

Impact Sale has been out since early June due to a stress reaction in his left scapula and only threw 35 and 54 pitches, respectively, in his two rehab starts with Triple-A Worcester. He looked sharp during that stint on the farm, though, tallying 10 strikeouts across 6.1 scoreless frames. The 34-year-old southpaw will have to continue building up on the fly, but he can maybe help Boston attempt to stage a late charge in the AL Wild Card standings.

Impact "It's an interesting one," Turner said. "It's a bone bruise. There's no real remedy for a bone bruise. You ask a medical person, they'll tell you 4-6 weeks avoiding impact. Obviously I don't have that luxury. So, trying to calm it down and get it as under control as I can and then try to go again and not piss it off. You don't really have a lot of options." Turner injured the heel back on July 31 and has started just three of eight games since, including sitting out each of Boston's last two contests. He could return to the lineup as soon as Thursday and plans to avoid the injured list, but it's certainly an injury which could affect Turner's production even if he does manage to play through it.

Kenley Jansen - Notches 25th save Jansen gave up a solo home run while walking one and striking out one in the ninth inning Wednesday to record his 25th save of the season in a 4-3 win over the Royals.
Impact Freddy Fermin's one-out blast over the Green Monster made things nervous for Boston, but Jansen got a break after walking Edward Olivares when pinch runner Dairon Blanco got caught stealing second. It's Jansen's 16th straight successful save conversion, with his last blown save coming May 13, and he's now reached 25 for the 11th straight full season, not counting the 2020 pandemic campaign. With 416 saves for his career, Jansen is six behind Billy Wagner for sixth place on the all-time list, and eight behind John Franco for a spot in the top five.

Nick Pivetta - Fans eight in eighth win Pivetta (8-6) picked up the win in Wednesday's 4-3 victory over the Royals, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out eight.
Impact MJ Melendez touched him up for a pair of solo shots, but otherwise Pivetta kept Kansas City in check as he made his 10th start of the season rather than working in a bulk role behind an opener. The right-hander has served up five homers over his last three appearances, but he still sports a sparkling 2.54 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 39:7 K:BB through 28.1 frames since the All-Star break. If he stays on schedule, his next outing lines up for a road trip early next week against the Nationals.
