Called up by Blue Jays Biggio was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday.

Impact Biggio missed several weeks in late April and early May while on the COVID-19 injured list, and he was sent to the minors after clearing the league's health and safety protocols. The 27-year-old has played in 10 games at Buffalo, and he's hit .276 with three doubles, nine runs, three RBI and two stolen bases. Biggio will be available for Thursday's series opener against the Angels, but it seems as though he'll serve mainly in a depth role since Santiago Espinal has performed well as the primary second baseman.

Activated and optioned Biggio was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Monday and optioned to Triple-A Buffalo.

Impact Biggio hit just .043/.214/.043 in 13 games prior to his absence. With Santiago Espinal emerging as an everyday second baseman, Biggio no longer has a starting spot available, though it's still somewhat surprising that his defensive versatility didn't earn him a bench role. It may take an injury ahead of him for Biggio to return to the big leagues.

Starting rehab assignment Tuesday Biggio (illness) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.

Impact Biggio, who has resided on the COVID-19 injured list since testing positive for the virus April 25, was expected to start his rehab assignment last week, but the Blue Jays opted to hold him back for a few more days to regain conditioning. The 27-year-old now appears healthy again and will look to get some at-bats in at Buffalo, but the Blue Jays likely aren't in any rush to activate him from the IL. Before being shut down, Biggio was slashing .043/.214/.043 over 28 plate appearances and had lost hold of the everyday role at second base to Santiago Espinal.
