Nico Hoerner - Likely done for 2021Hoerner isn't expected to play again this season while he contends with lingering soreness from previous injuries, Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
ImpactHoerner hasn't seen the field since Saturday and will sit out a fourth consecutive game Wednesday against the Pirates. Though the Cubs have thus far resisted placing Hoerner on the injured list, he may be available only in an emergency over the team's final five games. Sergio Alcantara will serve as the primary option at shortstop while Hoerner is out.

Dillon Peters - Resumes throwingPirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Peters (back) has resumed throwing, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ImpactPeters landed on the 10-day injured list with a lower-back strain last week, and he won't have enough time to ramp up his workload prior to the end of the regular season. The southpaw's injury carries a recovery timetable of approximately three weeks, so he should have a fairly normal offseason. Peters made six starts in the big leagues this year and recorded a 3.71 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 26.2 innings.

JT Brubaker - Increases throwing distanceBrubaker (shoulder) won't return prior to the end of the regular season, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
ImpactBrubaker will increase his throwing distance by playing catch off flat ground from 120 feet in the coming days, and he'll use all of his pitches during the throwing session. Although the right-hander is making progress and should have a relatively normal offseason, he won't have enough time to return by the end of the regular season. Brubaker made a career-high 24 major-league starts this year and posted a 5.36 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 124.1 innings.

Bryan Reynolds - Hitting third after three-hit gameReynolds will start in center field and bat third Wednesday against the Cubs.
ImpactReynolds' bat has cooled off in September, but he had a bounce-back game in Tuesday's 8-6 win, going 3-for-4 with a double and three runs. The 59-98 Pirates may tinker with lineups over the final five games of the campaign, but the 26-year-old All-Star should be one of the few constants.

Hoy Jun Park - Sticks in near-everyday rolePark will start at third base and bat eighth Wednesday against the Cubs.
ImpactMichael Chavis' return from the injured list Tuesday looked as though it might close Park's path to regular playing time, but Ke'Bryan Hayes' (wrist) move to the IL on Wednesday should allow both Chavis and Park to see steady work over the final five games of the season. Park will remain in the lineup Wednesday for the 11th time in 14 games after getting on base at a .366 clip over the prior 13 contests.

Colin Moran - Hitting cleanup after four-RBI gameMoran will start at first base and bat cleanup Wednesday against the Cubs.
ImpactAfter going 2-for-2 with a home run, two walks and four RBI in Tuesday's 8-6 win, Moran will be rewarded with a fourth straight start. Expect the 28-year-old to hold down the cleanup spot versus right-handed pitching over the final week of the season.
