Andrew Abbott - Notches eighth win Abbott (8-3) earned the win Wednesday, allowing two runs on six hits over five innings against the Guardians. He struck out five.

Impact Abbott's held opponents to just two runs in each of his last two starts (10.2 innings), striking out 14 in that span without issuing a walk. The rookie southpaw now sports a 2.99 ERA with a 1.12 WHIP and 88:27 K:BB across 14 starts (81.1 innings) this season. Abbott will look for a third straight win in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week against the Angels.

Matt McLain - Fills up stat sheet in win McLain went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, three RBI and two steals in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Guardians.

Impact McLain opened the scoring Wednesday with an RBI double in the first inning before adding a two-run homer off Noah Syndergaard in the fourth. The 24-year-old shortstop would also add his 10th and 11th stolen bases in the contest. McLain's huge night snapped a brief slump -- he'd gone 5-for-32 (.156) over his previous eight games. He's now slashing .298/.363/.514 with 13 homers, 56 runs scored and 44 RBI through 358 plate appearances in an impressive rookie campaign.

Hunter Greene - Confirmed for return Sunday The Reds announced that Greene (hip) will be activated from the 60-day injured list to start Sunday's game against the Blue Jays in Cincinnati.

Impact As anticipated, Greene will get the green light to make his first appearance for Cincinnati since June 17 after he completed a successful four-start rehab assignment in the minors Tuesday. In his latest outing Tuesday for Triple-A Louisville, Greene built up to 83 pitches and 5.2 innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit and three walks while striking out nine. Given the healthy workload he handled Tuesday, the 24-year-old is unlikely to face any significant restrictions as he steps back into the Cincinnati rotation this weekend.

Alan Busenitz - Back with big club The Reds recalled Busenitz from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Impact He'll be joining the 26-man active roster as a replacement on the pitching staff for right-hander Luke Weaver, who was designated for assignment. Busenitz has spent much of the season in the minors but has previously made four appearances out of the Cincinnati bullpen, giving up two earned runs on seven hits and one walk over four innings.

Justin Dunn - Beginning rehab assignment Dunn (shoulder) is set to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Impact Dunn is expected to return to the Reds as a reliever, but he's been out all season with a right rotator cuff injury and will need to prove his health and effectiveness with several minor-league rehab appearances. The 27-year-old struggled to a 6.10 ERA across 31 innings (seven starts) for Cincinnati in 2022.

Brett Kennedy - Likely to join rotation Kennedy is expected to join Cincinnati's rotation and make a start during this weekend's home series versus the Blue Jays, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Impact Kennedy previously made a five-inning spot start in his Reds debut July 4, but since returning from Triple-A Louisville on Aug. 7, he's made one two-inning appearance out of the bullpen. However, with the Reds designating Luke Weaver for assignment Wednesday, Kennedy now looks to be the next man up to fill the team's vacant fifth starter role. Kennedy looks poised to start either Friday or Saturday, but he may be in line for only a brief stay in the rotation, as the Reds could get Nick Lodolo (tibia) back from the injured list as soon as next weekend.

Luke Weaver - Cut from 40-man roster Weaver was designated for assignment by the Reds on Wednesday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Impact The Reds gave Weaver 21 starts this season even as he posted a 6.87 ERA. He will undoubtedly clear waivers and can elects free agency once that happens. Hunter Greene (hip) is expected to be ready to rejoin Cincinnati's rotation the next time Weaver's turn comes up.

Impact At issue for India is how long the team had him abstain from running. At the time of his injury in late July, the club prescribed a week of inactivity. India began rehab work and suffered a setback, prompting a second MRI from a doctor in Los Angeles, which revealed a more significant tear. The doctor said India should have taken two weeks off before beginning rehab. The infielder, who was scratched from a start July 29 then added to the injured list, was shut down for two weeks as of last Friday and feels would have been back had he been initially shut down for two weeks.
