Impact Garcia was competing for a rotation spot with Domingo German this spring, but it appears as though German will begin the season as the Yankees' fifth starter. Garcia had some issues with his command this spring and allowed seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits and eight walks while striking out 14 in 14 innings. He'll attempt to sort things out with the Triple-A club but could return to the majors at some point in 2021.

Lacks sharpness Wednesday Garcia pitched three innings in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game versus Toronto, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out a pair.

Impact Garcia struggled with his command and was stung by a pair of homers in his worst outing so far this spring. It couldn't have come at a worse time for the right-hander as he appears to be falling behind Domingo German in the battle for the fifth spot in the Yankees' rotation. Though Garcia has shown well overall with a 3.86 ERA and 1.43 WHIP across 14.0 innings, German has dominated with nine scoreless frames and a 13:1 K:BB.

Impact To his credit, Garcia improved as his outing wore on, going from three walks in the first inning to one in the second before finishing with a 1-2-3 third frame. He also held the Phillies without a run to improve his spring ERA to 1.64. As good as Garcia has been, Domingo German has been even better with nine scoreless innings and a 13:1 K:BB. That may give German the inside edge for the Yankees' No. 5 starter role, though that decision has yet to be announced.
