Impact Hutchison allowed three runs across the first two innings but then settled down to fire three scoreless frames before exiting. However, the Tigers mustered only two runs against Cleveland starter Aaron Civale and six relievers. Hutchison has pitched decently with a 4.45 ERA, though his record reflects the small margin of error any Detroit pitcher has right now with a struggling offense behind them. The veteran righty is scheduled to take the hill again Monday against this same Cleveland squad.

Handed loss Thursday Hutchison (1-5) allowed four runs (two earned) on eight hits and three walks while striking out three over six innings, taking the loss Thursday versus the Rays.

Impact Hutchison suffered an ankle injury in his previous start, but he was able to move past it. He had trouble with Brandon Lowe in this outing, as the Rays' infielder took him deep in the third inning and added an RBI single in the fourth, which was enough to hand Hutchison the loss. The 31-year-old right-hander trimmed his ERA to 4.37 with a 1.44 WHIP and 35:27 K:BB through 55.2 innings in 18 appearances (eight starts) this year. With the Tigers' rotation missing several starters, Hutchison is likely to get another turn next week against the Guardians.

Impact Hutchison was effective to begin Saturday's matchup, allowing just one run on two hits and three walks while striking out three in five innings. However, he was removed after throwing just 68 pitches and had his ankle wrapped after the game. Manager A.J. Hinch didn't sound too concerned about Hutchison's injury, so it's possible that the right-hander is cleared to make his next start. If he's able to pitch, he tentatively lines up for a home start versus the Rays next week.

Impact The Tigers scored plenty of runs, but Hutchison didn't stick around long enough to qualify for the win. He was making his first start in 10 days due to the All-Star break, so the Tigers decided to give the righty the hook after 80 pitches. Hutchison hasn't been overly impressive with a 4.84 ERA and 1.43 WHIP across 44.2 innings this season, but Detroit doesn't have a ton of other healthy rotation options at the moment, so he should stick around for now. Hutchison is slated to start again Saturday against the Blue Jays, who he made his MLB debut with back in 2012.
