Impact Olivares was out of the lineup for two of the four games leading up to Sunday's matchup, but he was one of four Royals to record multiple hits during the series finale against Detroit. Over his seven games since returning to the field, the 26-year-old has hit .208 with three homers, five runs and five RBI.

Impact Since being activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, Olivares has started in three of the Royals' five games, but each of those starts have come against left-handed pitching. He'll find himself on the bench versus a right-handed pitcher (Jon Gray) for the second time in five games, so at this point, Olivares may not be guaranteed a full-time role in the outfield. The lefty-hitting Kyle Isbel will get the nod in right field Tuesday in place of the righty-hitting Olivares, and it's possible manager Mike Matheny could end up deploying the two players in a platoon at the position.

Despite the poor showing Saturday and his move to the bench a day later, Olivares should have a fairly clear path to playing time in right field with MJ Melendez set to take over as the Royals' No. 1 catcher now that Salvador Perez (thumb) is on the shelf with a long-term injury. Kyle Isbel will get the nod in right field Sunday, however.

Impact Olivares took Oakland starter Cole Irvin deep in the third and fifth innings, providing the Royals all the offense they needed to win. Olivares had missed about six weeks with a quadriceps injury prior to his big return Friday, which featured his first two homers of the year. The outfielder is slashing .395/.439/.658 with five RBI, two stolen bases and seven runs scored in 41 plate appearances. He should have a chance to grab a starting role in right field, as Hunter Dozier is expected to see time at first base and designated hitter while MJ Melendez moves behind the dish with Salvador Perez (thumb) out for at least eight weeks.

Impact Olivares spent two weeks at Triple-A Omaha for a rehab assignment, and he hit .212 with a homer, six runs and two RBI over nine games. He hasn't played in the majors since May 8 but will provide depth in the Royals' outfield now that he's back to full health. It wouldn't be surprising to see Olivares earn regular at-bats after he hit .371 with four doubles, five runs, three RBI and two stolen bases over 15 games for Kansas City to begin the season.

Impact Olivares was given a six-week timetable when he hit the injured with a strained right quadriceps in early May, nearly six weeks ago.
