Impact Kiner-Falefa had been viewed as mainly a placeholder until Jung was ready to push for his major-league debut, something which could in theory have happened as early as Opening Day. While Jung's exact return timeline isn't clear, it now looks as though Kiner-Falefa should be safe in the job for at least the early part of the season before likely transitioning into a utility infielder role. He shouldn't be expected to hit for much power at all, but he did still 20 bases last season, so he'll offer a decent amount of speed for as long as he can hold onto regular playing time.
