Impact Upton is eligible to be reinstated from the 10-day injured list Saturday, but manager Joe Maddon said that the outfielder could be back in action as early as Sunday. The 33-year-old has been dealing with a lower-back strain since June 22, but he should reclaim an everyday role for the Angels once he's activated. In his 10 games prior to his absence, Upton hit .325 with three doubles, 10 runs, three RBI, a stolen base and seven walks.

Impact Upton's placement on the IL comes as a bit of a surprise given that manager Joe Maddon said earlier Friday that he anticipated the outfielder returning to the lineup either Saturday or Sunday. Per Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register, the decision to place him on the IL was a result of the outfielder feeling worse after getting to the ballpark Friday. The move to the injured list is retroactive to Wednesday, leaving Upton eligible to be reinstated July 3, though he may need additional time on the shelf.
