Gabe Speier - Contract selected by Kansas City Speier had his contract selected by the Royals on Wednesday.

Impact Speier will receive his first look in the majors this season after posting a 2.98 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 57:9 K:BB over 45.1 innings for Triple-A Omaha. The 26-year-old appeared in 17 games for the Royals over the previous two seasons and surrendered 11 runs across 13 innings.

Wade Davis - Out with shoulder inflammation Davis was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with right shoulder inflammation. The move is retroactive to Sept. 12.

Impact Davis surrendered three runs on three hits and three walks over an inning during his last appearance Saturday, and he'll now be sidelined for at least the next week. The 36-year-old will have a difficult time returning this season if he's forced to be shut down from throwing for more than a few days.

Impact Minor's move to the IL explains why he was scratched prior to his scheduled start Wednesday against the Athletics for a previously unknown reason. Manager Mike Matheny hasn't commented on the severity of Minor's shoulder issue, but the veteran southpaw seems likely to be shut down for the season with just two and a half weeks left to go. Kansas City has been running out a six-man rotation lately, so Matheny may just scale back to five starters rather than immediately appointing a replacement for Minor.

Impact It's not a secret that Kowar has struggled mightily in his first big-league stint, but this one could go down easily as his worst start to date. The fact that he hasn't been able to complete two full innings in three of his six appearances is concerning, but so is the fact that he has allowed at least four runs in four of those six starts. With those numbers, the fact that he owns an 11.50 ERA with a 2.17 WHIP and a 7.5 BB/9 through 18 big-league innings shouldn't be surprising.
