Bubic's last two outings have come off the bullpen and it remains to be seen whether he'll return to the rotation any time soon. He's been struggling this month, though, as he owns a disastrous 9.40 ERA across six June appearances (18.2 innings).

Impact When starter Brady Singer was pulled midway through the bottom of the fourth after racking up 96 pitches, Bubic stepped in to get the Royals through the middle innings. The Royals will add another starter to the mix Wednesday when Danny Duffy (forearm) returns from the injured list, but his arrival won't necessarily close the door on Bubic sticking in the rotation. The decision on the team's No. 5 starter will likely come down to Bubic or Jackson Kowar, who also worked out of the bullpen in his most recent outing following a pair of disastrous starts to begin his big-league career.

The southpaw has a 4.17 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 39:22 K:BB across 45.1 innings this year. If Kansas City gets back on a normal rotation, Bubic projects for a start versus the Yankees next week. The status of Brady Singer (shoulder) will likely play a large part in the team's pitching plans in the near term.

Both Bubic and Kowar will be available out of the bullpen Friday and it's not clear what the Royals are planning to do with their rotation past this weekend.
