Impact McCullers has thrown exclusively fastballs in his recent bullpen sessions, topping out at 89 mph. After he tosses his curveball from flat ground, McCullers will incorporate the pitch into his bullpen sessions. From there, McCullers will work to build up his slider in the same fashion. Given that progression, he remains a significant amount of time away from a potential return.

Impact In Tuesday's bullpen session he hit 86 mph with his fastball, so he is making gradual improvements. It doesn't sound like he is particularly close to returning to the big-league rotation, given where his velocity is and the fact he hasn't faced hitters yet.

McCullers noted that he kept his velocity around 90 miles per hour during the light mound work, but he plans to gradually increase both the intensity and number of pitches he throws in subsequent bullpen sessions. First, McCullers plans to throw off flat ground at 90 feet again Monday before potentially getting back on the mound again later in the week. He still looks to be a month or more away from returning from the 60-day injured list.
